Malcolm
Bailey sadly passed away peacefully on Wednesday 3rd January
2024. He was residing at a Devon care home near his adopted
daughter and receiving palliative care for terminal cancer and
Alzheimers dementia.
All
of the MG community will sorely miss him and certainly his family
and his friends.
He was a generous supporter of the V8 Register often helping
us with his IT skills, for example creating the V8 Bulletin
Board rapidly when a new more secure forum was needed. His MGBGTV8
with the police enforcement equipment was a regular sight at
many Club events as it attracted much attention.

This early
pre-production MGBGTV8 (Police White 112) was reviewed by the
magazine Police Review in August 1973. They said "this
car combines a businesslike appearance with a reasonable performance,
and is capable of carrying a surprising amount of equipment.
Now, announced this week, we have a new model, which should
make this one of the finest enforcement cars available."
The car was loaned to police forces for assessment and several
went into patrol use.
It was owned and carefully maintained for many years by longstanding
V8 enthusiast, Malcolm Bailey. It was complete with the internal
instrumentation for police work and a triangular illuminated
roof mounted Police sign with a blue flashing light.
It was previously owned for many years by Gerry Hiorns in Scotland
who collected the 1970s period police equipment. It's now with
Nigel Guild in Oxfordshire.
