on a coolcation
As temperatures in parts of England rose as high as 35C last week
with a continued lack of rain, much of Scotland had spells of rain
and highs in the mid-20C. So taking a break in Scotland is tempting
for many tired of the heatwave in the south of England.
In the past three months online holiday searches are up 420% for
"coolcations" and 300% for "escape the heat"
according to reports from those involved in advertising holiday
cottages and bookings for B&Bs and hotels in Scotland, the Northwest
and Yorkshire. Other travel and holiday bookings firms also report
customer visits to Norway and other northern areas in Europe were
up by 25% on the levels seen in 2025.
The latest weather forecasts indicate the hot conditions seem to
be continuing in the south of England for over a week or more, so
what can be enjoyed in the NW Highlands as part of a "coolcation"?
