Enjoy driving a Memorable MG Route

Memorable MG Routes (or MMGRs) are not simply about the tactile pleasure of driving the road, particularly in an MG, but they are also about the interest along the route from the views on the road, places to visit, sights to see and of course refreshment at tea shops and pubs! Yes that is the theme of this series - a hedonistic approach to MG motoring in all senses. More routes

T junction north of Achintee - turn left for Applecross

Start of the route over the Pass at Tornapress by Kishorn
Visit the Applecross village via the Pass of the Cattle
When you are on the Wester Ross Coastal Trail from Dornie (south of Kyle of Lochalsh) to Ullapool, the route takes you alongside Loch Carron but at the head of the loch there is a choice. After crossing the level crossing at Achintee (on the rail lne from Inverness to Kyle) there is a T junction on the A892 - see above. There you have a choice:

> turn right and go east which takes you some 20 miles through the broad Strathcarron to a roundabout just before the village of Achnasheen where you turn left on the A892 (the road from Inverness) and head northwest for Kinlochewe and Gairloch and then to Ullapool.

< turn left and go west through the village of Lochcarron via Shieldaig, Upper Loch Torridon and Glen Torridon to Kinlochewe. This route offers an opportunity for a visit to the remote village of Applecross via a steep, switchback road over a high mountain pass - the Bealach Na Ba or "Pass of the Cattle".
