Spare Wheel Holder Clamp Plate BHH111 change

Rob Rose spotted a minor change in the clamp on the spare wheel holder made during the chriome bumper production period.

Victor Smith noted "the spare wheel can be positioned with the inside face upwards or downwards. Personally I find having the spare wheel holder clamp on the inside face does provide a very useful space (see alongside) which I use to locate my socket tool set wrapped in a towel and a spare fuel pump and alternator drive belt. With the towel they don't slip around inside the wheel when the car is on the move as it provides the packing to steady the location of the small tool box & spares".

"Looking at my photo alongside can see I need to take out my spare wheel and clean it up and take the photo again, then gently spray the wheel with WD40 which is my way of avoiding moisture settling on the chrome surfaces and creating corrosion".

In a V8BB post, Rob Rose (Citron 1646) mentioned he had
recently noted that the MGBGTV8 Spare Wheel Holder BHH111 appears to have been modified during its production run, although neither the Part Number was changed or the MGBGTV8 Owner's Handbook updated.

Above: Spare Wheel Holder Clamp BHH111 on an earlier V8 (VIN 1089)
Below: the clamp on two later V8s (VIN 1646 & 1669)

Note: the earlier clamp had upturned ends and the later item had downturned ends.
Rob says "I do not know when the clamp was changed but a recently sold "two owner" MGBGTV8 (VIN 1718) has the later version of the spare wheel holder clamp".

The Date Through Paint Finishing (usually regarded as the "Built date" for the MGBGTV8 model) for each of the cars mentioned above is:
Harvest Gold 1089 13th December 1973 upward ends on clamp plate
Citron 1646 4th June 1974 downward ends on clamp plate
Damask 1669 7th May 1974 downward ends on clamp plate
Citron 1718 20th May 1974 downward ends on clamp plate
