Enjoy
driving an Memorable MG Route
Memorable MG Routes are not simply about the tactile
pleasure of driving the road, particularly in an MG, but they are
also about the interest along the route from the views on the road,
places to visit, sights to see and of course refreshment at tea shops
and pubs!
Yes that is the theme of this series - a hedonistic approach to MG
motoring in all senses.

Series will continue
A key feature of this series is contributions are welcome from fellow
members with their own memorable routes. So suggestions for additional
routes or contributions will be very welcome. A note with guidelines
for the style, content and format for contributions to the Memorable
MG Routes series is available. More
Here in the wide centre of Malborough, a welcome stop
for a visit to the Polly Tea Rooms, a particularly attractive place
for morning coffee or a cream tea. After a welcome break it's back
on the road with gentle curves and undulations leaving you with that
essential interest - what's ahead?

Newbury
to Castle Combe along the old A4
For sheer driving pleasure, the A4 at times of relatively light
traffic, takes a great deal of beating. In many places the road
is open with long sweeping bends and occasionally you can still
see the characteristic "three lane" feature so familiar
from an earlier motoring age. There are many places of interest
along the route from country houses and estates to ancient stone
circles and mounds together with some enticing refreshment stops
along the route.

Milford
(A3) to Goodwood along the A286 through Haslemere and Midhurst
Through the quiet roads of Sussex and sleepy villages, bustling
small towns and over the downs by the Goodwood horseracing course
and on to the airfield at Goodwood - it is a route which never
ceases to be a pleasure. Lunch on the verandah in the sunshine
at the Goodwood Aeroclub is a welcome prize for an enjoyable
MG motoring day.

across the Vale of the White Horse via the historic market towns

Wester
Ross Trail from Dornie near Kyle of Lochalsh to Ullapool
Driving around Wester Ross is an adventure on its own with many
single track roads and breathtaking scenery with huge mountains.
It's one of the most enjoyable routes in any car but particularly
in a classic MG.

Through
the Northwest Highlands from Dalwhinnie (A9) to Skye
A wonderful route over hills and along glens from the Drumochter
Pass on the A9, through Dalwhinnie, Laggan Bridge, Spean Bridge
and on to Invergarry. Then up the long hill up from Invergarry
to a viewpoint with the reward of the long views over to the
Rough Bounds of Knoydart. The route winds through the hills
until you reach the spectacular mountains seen as you drive
along the shores of Loch Cluanie and then down Glen Shiel and
on to Skye. Two interesting diversions - into Glen Roy to see
the Parallel Roads and visiting the brochs in Glen Beag plus
an alternative route to Skye using the Glenelg ferry.

Wild
Assynt and the North
Assynt is a remote and wild landscape north of Ullapool in the
North West Highlands with many spectacular views across wild
moorland to remarkable mountains like Quinag, Canisp and Suilven.
Viewed from different vantage points, groups of these mountains
can seem mysterious and weirdly-shaped as they peer above the
skyline. Always vast, this landscape can change - sometimes
intimidating but then with a weather change it can take on a
mantle of breathtaking beauty. Certainly a memorable route in
an MG.
