Now
is the time to buy an RV8
There are signs the RV8 market has softened a little in 2025 which
is puzzling in many ways because the RV8 model is a particularly attractive
classic sports car with a fuel injected V8 engine and a comfortable
Connolly leather and Elm Burr internal trim. Some have electrical
power steering retrofits. Current prices are attractive for someone
looking to get a reliable classic car barely 30 years old. So what
maybe the
factors influencing the demand for this classic?
Low mileage expectation
A feature of the RV8 market is buyers seem to expect RV8s to have
a low mileage because so many have been reimported from Japan and
many arrive with mileages of typically 20,000 to 40,000 miles, which
for a car of only 30 years from manufacture is a very modest average
use of only 650 to 1,400 miles a year. Consequently there seems to
be a lower interest in RV8s with over 50,000 miles which is strange
because a classic car does need regular use to help maintain the condition
of the car. Also a buyer of an RV8 advertised as a very low
mileage Exceptional condition" car may have in some cases the
unexpected substantial expense of recommissioning the car after very
little use when in extended layups.
