Beware a hack email is circulating - take care

Update - a report has come in that this stype of spam email has been received by an MGV8 enthusiast in Switzerland. Please be aware of this spam risk.

It seems one of the Club's directors [Name] has had his email address hacked and a scumbag hacker has gained access to the email addresses stored on the director's email account. The scumbag is sending the email hiding behind the director's email address to those on the list and to more recipients trying to persuade them to get involved in a scheme to get Amazon vouchers sent to a recipient yet to be announced.

If you see this email or one like it in your email inbox then delete it promptly without opening it and then run a security scan on your PC or other device.

The hacker is using emotional methods saying the vouchers are needed for "a friend's daughter with cancer" to persuade recipients to respond offering to provide funds via Amazon vouchers.

If you respond to the email what happens next?

The hacker responds hiding behind the email address that been hacked, saying:

Glad to hear back from you, I need you to get an Apple Voucher for a friend’s daughter who is down with cancer of the Liver, it's her birthday today and I promised to get it for her, but I can't do this now because all my effort purchasing it online proved abortive. Can you get it from Amazon online? I'll reimburse you back as soon as possible. Please let me know if you can handle this for me so I can tell you the amount and how to get them to her.

All the best,
