Ian Lindley reported at 4.19pm this afternoon that at the Bonhams auction at the Members Meeting at Goodwood this RV8 "was passed a few minutes ago at £25,000" which would be £29,500 with the addition of buyer's commission and VAT. Although the hammer fell at £25,000 it's uncertain whether the car was sold.

It was listed with an estimate of "£35,000 to £45,000" and in "exceptional condition" with only 427 miles from new. The listing added it was still on the "original Michelin Pilot tyres and even the pimples are still present on the tyre surface." Not an impressive feature - 27 year old tyres.

Ian Lindley felt the RV8 seems to have been treated almost as a museum piece. When you study the set of photos of the RV8 available online and look carefully at an engine bay photo, the expansion cap is rusty and the rocker covers and alternator body look a little shabby. It does not look like the level of care you would expect to see for an "Exceptional condition" car. Ian added "one is left wondering just how much recommissioning would be necessary together with other work to make the car fit for the road including new tyres and perhaps an Optimax chip upgrade. That could easily need a further £3,000 to £4,000 of expenditure and more".
