Cherished
plates
Ron Gammons has sent in news of the availability of a rare cherished
plate - V 8 - which will be a natural interest for some MGV8
enthusiasts, but at the eye watering price of £450,000 it's
time to take a deep breath!
Alongside are some examples of cherished plates with V888 and a name
(in this case "Ron") and the prices on offer. Clearly some
classic car enthusiasts find cherished plates interesting and some
even invest in getting one, but for many
classic car enthusiasts keeping the original number plate is part
of the originality of the car.

Rare cherished
number plate available
The registration plate "V 8" has now become
available through Regtransfers who say "it was issued by
Lanark County Council in 1904. It is increasingly rare for registrations
of this age to have survived. Many have been lost as old vehicles
were written off or scrapped. This scarcity gives such an old
registration a special appeal, similar to that of an antique."
For an owner of a V8 powered car there
could hardly be a more appropriate mark but the likely price
will be eye-watering. A search on the Regtransfers website indicates
a price of £450,000!
Availability of cherished plates
A personal number plate search on the Regtransfers website for
examples featuring "V888" and a name like "Ron"
indicates the likely prices range from £32,000 to £1,595.
Attraction & demand for cherished plates
It's clear that a significant number of car owners do like a
cherished number plate and are prepared to pay a substantial
sum for it but the particularly distinctive numbers are often
expensive and of course some are rare and very expensive. For
many classic car enthusiasts keeping the original number plate
is part of the originality of the car and the format of the
number will indicate the location of the original registration
of the car. More
