How many MGBGTV8s are in the UK?

The chart alongside has been produced using data available on the "How Many Left" website
developed and run by a car geek Olly Smith as a hobby project and maintained in his spare time. The data he uses is based on the UK "Vehicle licensing statistics" data published by the Department for Transport, which in turn is extracted from the DVLA's vehicle database.

How many MGBGTV8s are in the UK?
"Taxed" Historic vehicles
The 40 year rolling exemption from Vehicle Excise Duty for classic cars was introduced in the Chancellor's Budget in 2014 for classic vehicles that have had their road tax class changed to "Historic" on their V5C. As a rolling exemption this means that, every year on 1st April (the start of the new tax year), the cut-off date for tax exemption moves forward a year for cars built before the 1st January that year.
Chart above
The data above shows the numbers of MGBGTV8s taxed or on a SORN in each Q3 of the years seen in the data available on the "How Many Left" website. There is a clear change from 2014 to 2015 when owners of eligible cars were applying for the exemption by changing the road tax class on the V5C for their car from "Private" to "Historic". But it looks as if the number of MGBGTV8s in the UK (either taxed at the NIL VED rate or on a SORN) is encouragingly remaining steady at around 1,000 MGBGTV8s.
