David Bishop
Sad news - David Bishop has passed away.
He will be fondly remembered by many MGV8 enthusiasts as someone who contributed so much in creating the RV8 as a new MGV8 model launched in 1993. He also made the ongoing availability of essential MGB parts for the MGB and variants like the MGBGTV8 through an acquisition of British Motor Heritage at Witney from the then owner BMW.

David Bishop was Managing Director and then Manufacturing Director of British Motor Heritage through the 1980s and 90s. During this role there he successfully recovered the jigs and tools for the MGB and launched the manufacture of bodyshells for its variants followed by the Midget and TR6. The availability of the MGB bodyshell made possible the development of the MG RV8 in which he played a significant part. Before his retirement, he negotiated BMH’s move from Faringdon to superior premises at Witney. When BMW decided to sell BMH, he formed a team to acquire the business and used Longbridge tooling to produce bodyshells for the Mini and Clubman.

In June 2023, as part of the V8 Register's 25th Anniversary celebrations, David joined John Yea in a Talk on the Concept, Development and Production of the MG RV8. Hearing the detailed recollections of two people who were there playing a pivotal part in making the RV8 manufacturing project happen was a wonderful occasion. Dr Gavin Bailey made a video recording of the talk and a copy is available as part of a full set of RV8NOTES. David will be fondly remembered by many MGV8 enthusiasts as someone who contributed so much in creating the RV8 as a new MGV8 model launched in 1993 and the ongoing availability of essential MGB parts for the MGB and variants like the MGBGTV8.
