Car taxation - no new changes
The PBR announced no changes, simply referring to the reforms to VED rates for cars first registered from 1st March 2001 set out in the Budget 2008 & VED rates
Fuel duty - no new changes
Fuel duty rose by 2p per litre on 1st September 2009 and the PBR carried a reminder of the Budget 2009 announcement that fuel duty will also increase by 1p per litre in real terms on 1st April of each year from 2010 to 2013.
VAT increase of 2.5%

An earlier announcement confirmed VAT will return to 17.5% from the present 15% from 31st December 2009. It's likely retailers will pass this on to customers.

Scrappage scheme extended
An earlier announcement from Lord Mandy's department indicated the £2,000 old vehicle scrappage scheme has been extended. (9.12.09)
