Where
can I get good quality ignition parts for an MGBGTV8?
Poor quality
replacement rotor arms and condensers for the V8 distributor,
often Lucas branded items, are causing misfiring problems for
many MG V8 enthusiasts. Well now there is way to avoid that
- go to the Distributor Doctor and get reliable parts from a
specialist.
About Distributor Doctor
Distributor Doctor was born from a need to provide top quality,
accurately calibrated distributors which were proving difficult
to obtain from established sources. The timely acquisition of
a large inventory of original Lucas distributor parts, including
probably the world's largest stock of advance springs, was the
catalyst to make Distributor Doctor possible.
The business is run by Martin Jay who was responsible for Sales
and Technical Training in Europe and North America for Crypton,
the engine diagnostics manufacturer. More recently he has become
known to many for running the parts department at Revington
TR. Martin is consequently very well informed on all matters
to do with automotive ignition systems and is a specialist in
reconditioning Lucas distributors.

Top
quality replacement Lucas rotor arms
Recently manufactured rotor arms have been failing
because the typical "mix" used in the
injection moulding contains more carbon blacking
and is therefore more conductive. Also the rivet
which holds the brass inlay into the moulding, is
slightly longer than the original, bringing it too
close to the spring clip on the underside. The high
tension current, averaging 30,000 volts, is always
looking for the easiest route to earth and shorts
out from the tip of the overlong rivet, through
the reduced thickness of more conductive plastic
and the spring clip on the underside of the rotor
arm, to earth out down the distributor shaft. Result
- no sparks at the plugs. |
