An
interesting collection of over 20 MGV8s were at
the fourth annual "V8 Get Together" arranged
by Victor Rodrigues for the Swiss V8 Register on
Sunday 4th September, including the first rubber
bumper MGBGTV8 with longtime Swiss V8 enthusiast
Jacques Milliet and his son Louis. They were pleased
to have recently acquired the car as Jacques had
known the original owner, the late Geoff Allen,
so well. Geoff Allen had worked at the MG Plant
in rectifications for 27 years until the plant closed
when he set up his own MG servicing business in
Abingdon.
Another interesting car was a Huntsman V8 Roadster
in Glacier White recently acquired by Hanspeter
Bachmann who was clearly delighted with the high
quality V8 conversion built by David Franklin. The
long distance award went to Robin and Josie Livett
from Oxfordshire who joined the event with their
Damask V8 Roadster during their journey through
Switzerland to Italy. The car has covered well over
250,000 miles as they regularly tour in the car.
The programme for the Get Together included an early
morning reception at the Riverside
Hotel near Zurich, a guided tour of the hotel
owner's collection of classic cars in the basement
of the hotel, then following brunch there the participants
enjoyed a 100km route along the Rhine valley to
Basel for a guided tour round the three storey Moneteverdi
museum - an extraordinary collection of the luxury
V8 engined cars built by the Swiss designer and
constructor Peter Monteverdi.
The day closed with a farewell reception at the
Schloss
Hotel at Binningen organised by well know Club
personality, Ruedi Burri. |
