V8 Tulip Tour
An enjoyable non competitive circular tour through Oxfordshire with stops for lunch and a cream tea

on Wednesday 18th June 2003 we have a non competitive V8 Tulip Tour covering an attractive 125 mile rural circular route through Oxfordshire which starts from the Beales Hotel in Buckingham with stops for lunch at the St George Hotel in Lower Brailes and for a cream tea at the Killingworth Castle Hotel. V8 Tulip Tour is organised by Gordon Hesketh-Jones who lives in Cornwall so has chosen the cream tea with a keen eye! The tour route is set out on "tulip cards" and involves careful navigation and a quiz.

Prior booking is necessary to ensure your buffet lunch and cream tea is arranged. The entry fee of £28.00 per car including VAT which includes both lunch and tea for both the driver and one passenger. Where there are more than two people in a car, there is a modest charge of £15.00 including VAT for each additional passenger. Bookings and information from Gordon Hesketh-Jones.

What are the arrangements and timing for the visit?
All entrants will assemble at the Beales Hotel in Buckingham and will leave separately between 9.30am and 10.30am to start their V8 Tulip Tour. A buffet lunch has been arranged at the St George Hotel in Lower Brailes from 12.30pm onwards where Hook Norton beer is available. The lunch halt is approximately 38 miles along the route. The St George is a pleasant place and it is likely that entrants will relax and socialise there for at least 1½ hours. The route then covers a further 42 miles to the Killingworth Castle Hotel for what promises to be an excellent cream tea. Again this stop is at a pleasant and interesting ancient place. The final section of the route runs to the informal finish at the Beales Hotel.

What is the format of the event?
The event is a non competitive route through some very attractive rural roads with two realaxed breaks for lunch and tea. During the drive around the route, entrants will be asked questions about things they see in the traditional treasure hunt mode. There will be two quizzes - one on MG knowledge and another, a Distaff Quiz, designed for what are assumed to be the lady navigators. Tie-deciders will be set in case of problems. The three awards will be presented by the V8 Chairman at Silverstone at the V8 AGM on the Sunday 22nd June 2003, starting at 12.30pm.

How do I find the Beales Hotel?
See the Beales Hotel location map and information sheet for the hotel.

The St George is the lunch stop with a comfortable welcome inside (below) and a very pleasant garden (right) behind the traditional Costwold front.
