V8
Dinner The
V8 Dinners at Sulgrave back in the 1980s were very lively events with a great
deal of humour and few flat spots. Few will fail to remember some of the impromptu
speeches that accompanied the traditional eight V8 toasts - an Australian HMSO
story and David Franklin's punchline which caused June Wallis to gasp are just
two!
On
Friday 20th June 2003 we have a V8 Dinner
to celebrate the 25th Anniversary will be held at the new BRDC Clubhouse at Silverstone
Circuit. Members will gather beforehand from 7.15pm for dinner at 8.15pm prompt
and the evening will follow the brisk format of the memorable V8 Dinners held
in Sulgrave over the first 15 years of the V8 Register. The evening will include
the notorious V8 toasts and our awards including the Chris Dodds Award and the
Ian Lloyd Cup. What does the BRDC Clubhouse look like? See the
photo in the right hand column - the dining room is on the first floor.
Since
the preliminary announcement of the V8 Dinner in Safety Fast! reservations
have been made by both current and former members of the V8 Register - Brian Field,
Geoff Allen and Ron Gammons were some of the earliest - so early booking is
strongly recommended as we are limited to only 120 places. Full details of
the the price and booking arrangements are set out below.
What
are the arrangements and timing for the V8 Dinner? V8 Register members
and their guests will meet up for drinks at the BRDC Clubhouse bar from 7.15pm
and be called to dinner just before 8.10 so the dinner can start at 8.15pm
prompt. Bottles of wine will be on sale at the bar. There will be a table
plan adjacent to the entrance of the bar. The dinner is timed to end at 10.45pm
and the bar closes at 11.00pm. The caterers will have a vegetarian alternative
available but members must confirm any personal special dietary requirements and/or
those of any guests on the form when booking tickets so the caterers can be briefed
beforehand. What is the
ticket price? £32.00 per person including VAT. How
do I find the BRDC Clubhouse at Silverstone? See the Silverstone
location map. Note the BRDC Clubhouse is marked as "BRDC Suite"
on the map of the Circuit. The photo below shows the car park behind the BRDC
Clubhouse where you will be able to park your car.

V8 Register Awards
We have had two awards over the years, the Chris Dodds Memorial Award and the
Ian Lloyd Cup introduced in 2002.
The Chris Dodds Memorial Award was first made back in 1982 in memory
of Chris Dodds, a most enthusiastic V8 member in Australia. It is traditionally
awarded to the member who has made a major contribution to the V8 Register. The
photo above is from the V8 Dinner in 1982 at the Thatched House Hotel in Sulgrave
when the award was first made to David Franklin for his amazing trouncing
of the full race BCV8 cars with his standard roadgoing MGBGTV8 at a wet Silverstone
- an extraordinary spectacle that many V8 enthusiasts still recall today! Over
the years the award has since been held by Walter Kallenberg for the amazing
German sausages he brought over from Germany for many of the annual V8 BBQs, Phyllida
Maude-Roxby for arranging the 1984 V8 Dinner, Colin Pearcy for his
success in campaigning an MGBGTV8 on the track, Geoff & Jean Allen
for their generous help and assistance for V8 members, Jerry Bright for
his long service as V8 Treasurer, Dugald MacNeil for services to V8 members,
Andy and Jayne Harding for their work in making videos of the V8 Tours,
Ron Armstrong for his work on the V8 Tours, Dave Wellings for his
technical support to V8 members, and Bryan Ditchman for his work as Editor
of the RV8 Workshop Notes series. So with only 12 awards in 20 years, it's clear
the award has gone missing from time to time!

Ian
Lloyd Cup This trophy was first awarded in 2002 in memory of a very popular
and cheerful RV8 and MGBGTV8 enthusiast , the late Ian Lloyd. Rosemary Lloyd presented
the first award to David Waterton at Silverstone in 2002, and the V8 Chairman
noted it was "awarded to a member who has brought good cheer and humour
to the V8 Register over many years". Rosemary was clearly delighted that
this annual trophy would remember Ian on that basis.
