Blenheim Palace
An opportunity to visit the palace built for the Duke of Wellington

On Thursday 19th June 2003 we have a visit to Blenheim Palace at Woodstock in Oxfordshire coordinated by Peter Beadle. V8 members will make their own way to Blenheim Palace and meet up with Peter Beadle in the car park. As Thursday 19th June is the first day of the Flower Show at Blenheim Palace, it is not possible to have a special car parking area allocated to the V8 Register, but as it is a Thursday morning it should not be difficult for V8 members to park together despite the additional numbers of visitors visiting Blenheim for the flower show.

For V8 members who would like to benefit from the reduced "group rate" admission charge, Peter Beadle will need your prior booking so he can arrange for a supply of the special "group rate windscreen stickers" to be obtained from Blenheim Palace so he can mail them to you before hand. Why? - well simply that as the ticket control booths are before you reach the car park, you have to have a "group rate windscreen sticker" on display or pay the full entrance charge to get in.

What are the arrangements and timing for the visit?
The plan for the visit is for the group to meet at the car park at Blenheim Palace at 11.30am prior to joining one of the guided tours. The car park is inside the ticket control point. Peter Beadle will meet you in the car park at Blenheim Palace.

What is the admission charge and booking arrangements?
The adult admission charge at the "group rate" is £8.00 which includes a guided tour of the house which takes around 90 minutes in groups of 15-20 people. Peter Beadle will need your early reservations as he has to confirm the Group Rate booking in writing and submit a sample of the "MG Car Club - Group Rate" windscreen sticker for approval by Blenheim Palace and distribution to their ticket barrier staff so they will recognise it on the day. The normal adult entry charge is £10.00.

Is this event covered by the V8 Pass?
Yes it is included in the V8 Pass package of benefits but only if you book well in advance to leave Peter sufficient time to organise the "group rate windscreen sticker" for you.

Blenheim Palace is 8 miles north of Oxford on the A44. From the Wolvercote roundabout (see the junction of the A34 and A44 in the middle at the bottom edge of the map above), turn north west onto the A44 for a short distance by Yarnton towards Woodstock when you will see the signs on the left hand side for the access to Blenheim Palace.

A larger scale map and an enlarged copy of the local map above are available on this website - see Blenheim maps.

"The finest view in England" - a view painstakingly designed to take your breath away.

A masterpiece of Sir John Vanbrugh in the classical style with a fine collection of pictures and tapestries. The gardens and park were designed by Vanbrugh and Queen Anne's gardener, Henry Wise. Later construction was carried out by "Capability" Brown who also created the famous Blenheim lake.

The Long Library is 150ft long and was designed by Vanbrugh as a picture gallery with fine stucco decoration of the ceiling and two false domes
