Driving
an MGV8 on the track at speed is an experience many
V8 enthusiasts may dream of from time to time but
few get round to trying. But it is both easy and
safe at a well run MGoT track day as Nic Houslip
found. |
Nic
runs the RV8 formerly owned by the late Bill Wallis,
the Club's former President, and says "I never
forget what Bill Walliss daughter Louise said
at Bills memorial service. Dad took me to
an airfield and allowed me to drive the RV8 flat
out and afterwards said: Now that you have done
that, dont ever do it again unless the sun
is shining, or not shining, its windy or not
windy, raining or not raining, in short do it whenever
you can. That is what track days are for. There
are no lamp posts, cyclists, traffic coming the
other way, policemen etc. So enjoy." Bill would
be delighted to see his RV8 being driven in the
MG way - Safety Fast!
Nic is keen to pass on his enthusiasm for track
days to fellow members so has contributed an article
on his first track day on a circuit at Castle Combe
in Wiltshire in June 2011. He ends the article by
saying "until I can do it again I will relive
the experience over and over. I have already reserved
a place at Stowe in August and as soon as the MGoT
opens booking for Castle Combe in September I will
reserve my place because I'm hooked." Article |
