Testing programme for corrosion inhibitor additives for petrol with biofuel
We have heard that the corrosion additive testing programme being arranged by the FBHVC "is now very close to commencement - seven companies have been invited to submit their corrosion inhibitor additives for assessment. The test needs to run for 13 weeks in order to discover the long term efficacy of the products. So it will be a few months before the FBHVC will be able to endorse any of these additives." 230511

Background to the FBHVC corrosion additive issue
An update on the progress with bringing forward a corrosion inhibitor for use with ethanol motor fuel published in the FBHVC report released in March 2011 noted "in 2010, through our trade supporter scheme, we introduced five companies to a manufacturer of a corrosion inhibitor additive for petrol. This additive should overcome many of the problems associated with the inclusion of ethanol in petrol (but not material compatibility issues, please note).

The FBHVC said in March 2011that it hoped "to have the test programme up and running very soon; there have been some technical problems to overcome but we are hopeful that later this year we will be able to offer an endorsement to the products that pass the test regime."
