John Cumming spotted this news item in the Daily Telegraph on Saturday 25th February 2012 noting "the law is changing in France on 1st July 2012 when it will be a requirement to carry a breathalyser kit in the car when travelling in France." The Daily Telegraph report says "anyone caught without the equipment faces an 11 euro (£9.30) fine."

Several low cost breathalysers are available including the Alcosense Lite Pocket Breathalyser recognised by WHATCAR? magazine as the best breathalyser under £40. It's available from various suppliers including Halfords at £38.99 but the online customer reviews are mixed. More
A much less expensive "one use" test kit is the Morning After Breathalyser also available from Halfords at only £2.00. More So if it is simply compliance you are seeking then buying one of
these a multi or single use kits and popping it in the glovebox seems to be sufficient. Halfords' website
