Research suggests there were two White Gold paint colours for the RV8

Ttwo paint codes for the White Gold were used during the RV8 production run. Research indicates that VINs 283, 365, 414, 427, and 440 were painted with White Gold code GMK and VINs 1025, 1289, 1349, 1674, 1916, 2174 and 2176 were painted in the later White Gold colour code GMN. No trace of any change in all the Literature, Brochures and Manuals or even the RV8 Parts Manual dated May 1998 can be found so it would appear that this change has not been recorded except on the vehicle VIN plates.

Eagle eyed George Wilder spotted the VIN plate for 1916 a White Gold RV8 advertised for sale on the web has the paint code GMN and not GMK as all the books and manuals state. From our records it appeared it should be GMK as there is no mention of the paint code GMN. So why the difference, was it a mistake in the stamping on the VIN plate or was it a different colour? Well contacts with sources at BMW (where the MGR was built) found that it was a White Gold colour that appears to have superseded GMK on the later White Gold RV8s.

We are now trying to ascertain on which car the paint change occurred. The paint supplier that MG ROVER used was MaxMeyer of Stowmarket in Suffolk and they are still paint specialists but it is not known if they supply the public or just the Trade with their paints.
