Following the report yesterday that Chris Vernon had pulled out of driving his Midget to South Africa, the good news has just arrived that his trip is back on again! The good news is the wounds from the dog bite are healing well and a local doctor has found a new course of injections - a course of 5 instead of 21- that Chris can take with him on the trip.
Chris says "thanks for your concern and that of the other V8 members but the good news is that the trip for me is back on. We have just returned from the docks where we loaded the Midgets onto a barge for Sudan. We follow on the smelly ferry in the morning after I have had my wound dressed and another jab." So the Odyssey continues . . . . . . .
Recent developments
In his fifth report, Chris mentioned he had been been bitten by a dog in Aswan in Southern Egypt and, as it is a serious matter in that part of the World, he was advised he would have to have a course of anti rabies injections over the next three weeks. He understood that they would only be available only from hospitals or clinics so as there was no guarantee that such facilities will be available along much of the route Chris and Roy plan to take, Chris had reluctantly decided he had no choice but to withdraw from the challenge and make arrangements to return to the UK. Fortunately he has been able to get alternative advice and supplies of a course of anti rabies injections he can carry with him.
