Planned
fuel duty rises could add 8p to a litre of fuel by Summer 2012
.
The Times reports "a spkesman would not be drawn on whether
the Chancellor would backtrack on the planned tax increases
laid out in his Budget in March 2011. The issue is expected
to be addressed in his Autumn Budget Satement on Tuesday 29th
November." As usual the V8 website will have a report on
the statement with an hour of the Chancellor sitting down .
Petrol at 145p a litre would be a fraction less than £6.50
a gallon.

Concerns
over a 4p per litre tax increase due on 1st January
and a further 4p increase on 1st August have been
raised by Brian Madderson, chairman of RMI Petrol,
in a letter to George Osborne yesterday. RMI Petrol
calculate that the two duty rises due in 2012 would
8p to the price of a litre of fuel, taking unleaded
petrol to 145p once forecasted rises in crude oil
are included.
A report in The Times today adds "petrol prices
are at the highest level ever for this time of the
year after the Summer peak." Edmund King, the
President of the AA said the Government should "at
least commit to freezing fuel duty until petrol
falls at least below 125p a litre." Posted:
