This car has an interesting background as it was originally destined for the Japanese market but was snatched from the docks at the port before making it onto the boat. British Motor Heritage has confirmed that back in November 1995 this car was built as Woodcote
Green 2165 as a Japanese specification car but was returned to the MG factory. The car was stripped down, had a full respray in Oxford Blue and was converted to a UK specification car with no aircon and none of the other Japan spec items before being released back into the UK market in May 1998. An AA vehicle data check has confirmed that there was no export licence for this car to go overseas.
