The MGBGTV8 pictured on the cover of the Special Tuning handbook was the subject of a note from Steve Illing on the V8 Bulletin Board saying "I have the car, but the log book is on its way to me. I have been told that it was owned by the MG Factory for the first year or two." He later revealed it was Car No. GD2D12630G.

The V8 Registrar identified the car from a copy of the Factory production records as Flamenco Red 2630. It's recorded as a rubber bumper car in Flamenco Red, commissioned on 19th August 1975 and despatched from the MG Plant on 31st October 1975 to BLMC
Austin/Morris at Cowley as a Management Car Plan vehicle for Mr B Kearswell. David Knowles spotted it was currently unlicensed.
