V8
Curry Night 2005
An annual V8 Curry Night has been a tradition of the V8 Register
from its formation in 1978. It is usually held in early February
and starts the programme of V8 Gatherings for the year! This year
the V8 Curry Night is on
Saturday 5th February 2005
How
do you find The Last Viceroy?
The Last Viceroy, a curry house in the centre of Bourne End,
just east of Marlow.
Bourne End is very easy to find from the A404 - a dual carriageway
which runs from J4 M40 down to J8/9 M4. It is accessible to members
travelling from the M4/M40/M25 motorway box - from the south and
west via the M4 and M40, from the north of the Home Counties via
the M40 and from the north and east via the M1 and M11 via the M25.

Bourne End
is at the middle of the top left quadrant of this map - just east
of the A404 and south of J4 M40. This map shows the M4/M40/M25 motorway
box with the A404, a dual carriageway link road (marked in green)
on the western side which runs from J8/9 M4 up to J4 M40, that passes
close to Marlow on the lefthand edge of the map above.

You leave the
A404 at an interchange signposted for Marlow and Bourne End.
Approaching this interchange from the north or south, then your
directions are:
Coming from the North from J4 M40, you simply come off the
dual carriageway at the foot of a long downhill dual carriageway
from J4 M40, and then turn left at that interchange for Little Marlow
and Bourne End.
OR
Coming from the South from J8/9 M4, then you come off the
dual carriageway just as you see a Volvo office building
on your lefthand side and before going up the long hill beyond
the interchange. You turn right at the interchange and head off
for Little Marlow and Bourne End.

The Last
Viceroy is at 74 The Parade which is almost in the centre
of Bourne End - a village by the Thames. It is marked with a red
ring on the map above.

The Last Viceroy has parking space in a service road in
front of the restaurant.
The centre of Bourne End - the restaurant is to the right
of this photo and ahead is the route you come in on from the A404
dual carriageway at the Marlow & Bourne End junction. The
entrance to the small service road in front of the restaurant is
just left of the parked car on the right of the photo. Immediately
after the restaurant is a Total petrol station on the lefthand
side, so if you reach that then you will know you have gone too
far!
You can see a good quality copy of the detailed location map above
using the wonderful map service at www.multimap.com by just
typing in the postcode for the restaurant which is
SL8 5SS or you can use the direct link below.

Advance
warning - disruption expected on the M25
For members coming to the V8 Curry Night from Kent, Surrey or Sussex
and are likely to use the western side of the London's M25 orbital
motorway, you need to note a news item from Brian Moyse.
Brian Moyse used to commute from Surrey to near Hammersmith in West
London every day and reports serious congestion seems likely as
the M25 is due to be dug up between Junctions 12 & 15
(on the western side near London Heathrow Terminal 5) from the 5th
January 2004. Fortunately Brian has been relocated to the Camberley
office of his organisation just in time to avoid the commute and
the M25 chaos! Brian
mentions a useful webpage on the Highways Agency's website.
