V8 Column for June 2007
Welcome to the V8 Marquee at Silverstone 2007

The Club's annual International MG meeting at Silverstone is a popular event for many V8 enthusiasts and the V8 Marquee is a meeting place over the long weekend with a warm welcome. Alongside is a convenient dedicated V8 parking area. Bryan Ditchman will be there following a "loft clear out" is intending offering lots of useful MGBGTV8 and RV8 items for sale in the V8 Marquee. As he says there will be "bargains a plenty".

On Friday from noon we will be at Hook Norton as usual visiting the brewery and lunching at the Pear Tree nearby. On Friday evening there is the traditional informal V8 Supper at the Star Inn at Sulgrave from 6.30pm and at the time of preparing these notes over 25 members had booked in for supper using the online system.

On Saturday evening there is a V8BBQ alongside the V8 Marquee open to all V8 members and their guests. Clive Wheatley's friends are very kindly providing the catering expertise again. So we can ensure sufficient supplies are available, please book a V8BBQ supper online on the V8 website or contact the V8 Scribe on the number above.

On Sunday there is the V8 AGM at 12.30pm when by custom the whole of the V8 Committee stands down and V8 members offer themselves for election or re-election. Also a number of V8 trophies are awarded - the Chris Dodds award and the Ian Lloyd Memorial Cup. This year we have a new cup in memory of the late Geoff Allen, the former V8 Historian and Archivist,

which will become an annual award. For new V8 members you will find full details of how to find Silverstone and then the layout and programme for the weekend on the V8 website - just click the button for the Rolling V8 Calendar and follow the link to the Silverstone briefing webpage. You will also find route maps on the website to help you find the Hook Norton Brewery and the Star Inn at Sulgrave as they are both tucked away in the countryside.

Looking ahead, 2008 will be the V8 Register's 30th anniversary and the 35th for the MGBGTV8, so we are planning a week of activities before the Silverstone weekend with a V8 Supper on the Friday evening, quite probably at the BRDC clubhouse as in 2003.

The two workshop notes series continue to expand with many notes now coming from the useful postings on the V8 Bulletin Board. Many members are finding the quality of the help and support available through the V8BB is a real benefit. Members in Australia, Germany and South Africa are able to participate as though they were living in the UK. The internet and V8 website has been a wonderful means for facilitating good communication and friendship within a members' club like ours.
