MG Exhibition at Abingdon Museum
As the years pass since the Factory closed it is important to maintain an awareness of MG and the important links with Abingdon

On Monday 16th June 2003 there is a visit to the new MG Exhibition at the Abingdon Museum opening at the beginning of June.

MG Exhibition
This new exhibition will open in early June and will comprise 12 display screens carrying large scale printed photographs and posters, 39 display cases each containing artefacts originally in the Factory and other items of MG interest. Other exhibits will include a Morris bicycle and an MG carrier bicycle. The focal point of the exhibition will be photographs of the end of the the production line mounted on large boards with several photographs of individual workers mounted on boards in front to recreate one of the key views in the Factory.

Aims and benefits of the MG Exhibition
The exhibition aims to maintain an awareness of MG and its links with both Abingdon and the MG Car Club for the townspeople and visitors to Abingdon. The Curator, Ms Cherry Gray, has mentioned that "many visitors to the museum express disappointment with the lack of an MG exhibition" so this new MG Exhibition should be popular.

Location of the MG Exhibition
The exhibition will be in the large room on the first floor of the Abingdon Museum which is the former County Hall and County Court building in the centre of Abingdon overlooking the Market Place. Light refreshments are available.

MG Car Club involvement
Brian Moylan of the Abingdon Works Centre of the MG Car Club and the Curator, Cherry Gray, are the prime movers in preparing and mounting this new MG Exhibition. A major part of the funding of the exhibition is provided by the Douglas Mickel Trust with the balance from the local authorities. The Douglas Mickel Trust was formed several years ago to own and manage the key assets of the MG Car Club including the Club Office property and several of the Club's valuable trophies.

Abingdon Museum faces the Market Place in the centre of this historic town - a busy place on Market Day!

The view looking east from the roof of Abingdon Museum - you can see the road crossing the bridge over the Thames and the Old Gaol is very prominent! The most convenient car park for visitors to the museum is just over the bridge and then immediately on the left - you can almost see the turn in the photo above!
