Supporting MOT testing stations who are familiar with older vehicles like our classic MGs makes sense - they will know the exemptions that apply to MGBGTV8s and RV8s without the need to spend time looking them up. Also the staff at testing stations that welcome classic cars tend to have a respect for well maintained examples and treat them with care. They are often small garages and they need our continued support.

Let us have the names of good MOT test garages. If V8 enthusiasts have a favourite garage that gives a good MOT testing service and has a real feel and understanding for classic MGs, why not post the name, location (including a postcode) and contacts (telephone and any website address) as a posting on the V8 Bulletin Board so fellow members near you will be able to support that "classic car friendly" MOT test garage? From: Victor Smith		 A small roadside garage that specialises in MOT testing and is run by a friendly team is J & P Motors in Hampton . One of the team is restoring an MGB Roadster and they treat my MGBGTV8 and a 20 year old Volvo 940 SET Estate with real care. You book in for a time slot and can wait while the test is carried out. They have always run on time, are most helpful and they know the test regulations applying to older cars. They are pleased to see a good MG in their testing bay.

The Owner is Neville Drewery and he drives a Ford GT (GT40 recreation) with a 600bhp engine! The brake tester is very modern and doesn't use the dreaded rollers. They have a wealth of experience in classic and sporting cars.

 What a Good Idea. The MOT Test Station I use and can recommend is Tracks of Taunton. You can book in and wait for your car to be tested. The waiting area is comfortable and has free (?) coffee or tea, all for £34:99. The test is conducted professionally and fairly, usually by the same examiner for the MG. He always has time for a comment on the car and seems to take a genuine interest. I have no commercial interest in this business - just a satisfied customer.

From: Gavin Bailey		 My recommended local garage is the West Horsley Motor Works east of Guildford in Surrey. They have been around since the 50s and are well used to classic cars and exotica as well as the more run of the mill modern cars. There is also a good pub just across the road for a pint, however I'm not advocating mixing the two!
