Goodwood Revival 2006 - scenes from another
glorious weekend of motor racing
Mixed weather for the Goodwood Revival 2006 but exciting racing nonetheless
Friday was fine and occasionally very sunny, Saturday was wet and very windy, but fortunately Sunday was far better but still windy. So not quite the glorious weather the Goodwood Revival meeting usually enjoys!

1962 Tojeiro Buick V8 was a car of considerable interest to V8 enthusiasts as an early use of the reliable powerplant. This very attractive car was running in the Whitsun Trophy race. (Photo: Victor Smith)

1963 Marina Rolls Royce was a rare sight and driven by Simon Ashworth, son of Dr Mark Ashworth a Club member who first entered BCV8 Championship events back in the mid 1970s and has been an enthusiastic competitor for many years. This very attractive car was also running in the Whitsun Trophy race. (Photo: Victor Smith)

Spitfire warming up for the 9am display - an enthusiastic sound recordist is alongside the fence to capture the wonderful sound the Merlin makes as the engine warms up. We have a short audio clip from a digital camera to give you a flavour! (Photo: Victor Smith)

Towards the end of the soundtrack you can hear the velvet tones of the late Raymond Baxter, probably his last public commentary.

The attention to detail Lord March and his team apply is subtle but so effective in achieving a wonderful period feel for the Goodwood Revival meeting. They really do provide a "a magical step back in time". The extras above create a wartime scene of a pilot on standby with his Spitfire. Alongside you will see another example with the Bentley and caravan but this time quite amusing. (Photo: Victor Smith)

Mike Maude-Roxby, one of the most genial V8 Scribes the V8 Register has had and a former V8 owner, has attended all the Revivals as a GRRC member. He simply loves the Goodwood Revival atmosphere and both he and Phyllida are wonderful company. (Photo: Victor Smith)

More Goodwood 2006 photos very welcome

May their fame live forever - Mike Hawthorn, in overalls and brogue shoes, with Lofty England clutching a Jaguar steering wheel. A lifesize and very moving sculpture has recently been mounted at the Madgwick end of the covered Paddock. (Photo: Victor Smith)

Saloon car race on Saturday featured a Jaguar, an A35 (Jellymould) and an A95 contesting the lead throughout plus a couple of MG Z Magnettes and Sir Stirling Moss in a Mk 9 Jaguar - it was simply breathtaking and another David and Goliath event.

Derek Bell was driving the famous Jaguar saloon BUY 1 this year in the St Marys Trophy race for saloons. We have some short digital camera video clips at Woodcote Corner during the race. (Photo: Tim Hipwell)

Goodwood Revival humour can be seen everywhere in the attention to detail
The type of subtle jokes employed by Lord March's team are illustrated by the scene seen behind the mound at the chicane. There you have a Bentley with a caravan of the type seen in the early 1950s - but wait there is no tow hitch on the Bentley and what is that at the back!
Good grief it looks as if Mae West is a guest for the weekend but steady on. . . isn't that a rubber girdle drying in the breeze! Well that's what Mike Maude-Roxby says it was and he should know! (Photos: Victor Smith)
