Data security policy
We take data security seriously and particularly the wishes of our members with regard to the release of limited vehicle and member contacts data to fellow V8 Register members.

Members' data release wishes
Since the V8 Register was launched in 1978 we have, as a matter of common courtesy, always asked members registering with the V8 Register whether they wish to have their data circulated to fellow V8 Register members. If the member's response is "Yes" then we only circulate the Member's name, Car number, Colour, County or Country and Telephone number. We do not release members' addresses because we are aware of the natural concern members have that thieves might try and steal their car if they had the member's full address.
Of course since 1978 we have had increasingly stricter data protection legislation in the UK with which we comply.

New V8 Database security
This has been a fundamental matter for planning, creating and running the New V8 Database.
What records do we have?
The present database is in fact two separate systems - one for the V8 records and the other for the RV8 - using broadly speaking the same layout of data fields. The data fields are:
Sortname (so the data can be sorted on members' surnames).
Member's name
Address (four fields for each part of the address)
County or Country
Postcode
Telephone number
Email address
Car number (GD2D1 or VIN)
Colour
Registration plate (VRM)
Data of first registration
UK or Japan spec car (RV8 only)
MG Car Club membership number
Notes
Data protection - this data field records the members' wishes regarding the release of limited data to fellow members. The record is either "YES" for release or "NO" for no release of data. The default record is "NO".
