Vulcan flies again - what a wonderful sight!

Vulcan XH558 last flew 14 years ago after a 33 year career with the RAF which included service in the Falklands. Some 20,000 people worldwide helped raise the £6.5m of public and private donations needed to restore the aircraft together with funding from businesses and the Lottery Fund. It took 14 years and thousands of man hours from a dedicated team to complete the restoration.

"What a privilege to fly the aeroplane again. It feels great - it all came back. Just absolutely wonderful. It's a tremendous salute to the people who worked so hard to make this aeroplane what it is today and of course it's a salute to all those designers from yesteryear who created the beautiful lady in the first place. It's 25 years almost to the day that I last flew one" said Squadron Leader Al McDicken on stepping from the Vulcan. (18.10.07)

The wives of the co-pilots Al McDicken and David Thomas find the occasion emotional.
