Change of law in
France bans GPS devices that warn of speed cameras What's
the position with GPS based speed camera warning systems in the UK? We
understand the UK Government "will not be prohibiting those devices that
rely on Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to warn drivers of published
camera sites or posted speed limits, as these compliment the Government's policy
to ensure that camera sites are visible and conspicuous to drivers, and so help
deter excessive and inappropriate speeds on the roads."

From 4th January 2012 a new
law in France makes it illegal to be warned about the location of speed cameras
while you are driving. If you have a device, you are breaking the law if you continue
to receive the speed camera warnings and you risk getting a fine. |
How
to stay within the law If you have a TOMTOM satnav with camera alerts
there are two things that you should do: 1.Disable Speed Camera alerts for
France on your device. Visit the TomTom website to see how. More
2.Update your device with the latest Speed Cameras. This will remove the Speed
Cameras for France from your device. Colin Murrell (MGF Register &
260 Group) says " Also worth noting a caution confirmed by a French MGZT260
owner: 1. The French Speed Camera Warning signs warning of a speed camera
ahead are being removed. 2 The French police are also investing this year
in unmarked cars with new technology which uses an IR beam (so no flash) and can
sweep both carriageways." | | |
