V8 enthusiasts at Silverstone 2007
Wet conditions for Silverstone 2007
After some five years of dry annual meetings at Silverstone, some of which were very hot indeed, the Club's annual International MG Meeting at Silverstone this year was wet and very muddy underfoot. As usual there was a V8 Marquee organised this year by Dr Gavin Bailey. Fortunately the marquee was much larger this year providing plenty of shelter from the elements! (25.6.07) More photos of the event are welcome.
Friday morning - Hook Norton Brewery
The annual visit to the Hook Norton Brewery saw Mike and Barbara Russell, Clive Wheatley, Steve Newton, Bryan Ditchman, John Bolt, Gordon and Jennifer Hesketh-Jones, Dr Gavin Bailey and Victor Smith enjoy lunch at the Pear Tree after visiting the brewery along the lane.

Friday evening - V8 Sulgrave Supper
Some thirty V8 members and their friends met up at the Star Inn in Sulgrave for an informal supper on Friday for what has become an enjoyable start to the Club's annual three day International MG Meeting at Silverstone. Usually members sit in the garden and enjoy the warm evening sun, but this year the wet and cold weather made a switch to the dining room necessary. More

Saturday - V8 Marquee provided useful refuge
Many V8 members visited the V8 Marquee during the day to meet friends, check up on spares offered by Bryan Ditchman and Clive Wheatley, get a fleece or polo shirt from the V8 Regalia stall, buy a workshop notes CD or test the "lubrication tap". Despite a dire weather forecast on Radio 4 in the morning, the rain kept away until late afternoon when a serious but short downpour hit Silverstone.

As Silverstone Circuit had banned cars parking on grassed areas so the dedicated V8 parking area was moved to a section of the old Club Straight between the two bridges which was reasonably close to the V8 Marquee.

Saturday evening - V8BBQ
Then surprisingly the evening was bathed in sunshine for the V8BBQ (see the photo alongside) so members were able to sit out by the V8 Marquee and enjoy a social supper. Clive Wheatley's team worked throughout the afternoon and provided a BBQ supper for 110 V8 members and their friends - a major catering operation with excellent cooking. V8BBQ more

Sunday - V8AGM
The weather on Sunday was wet and colder and underfoot grew muddier during the day, so the V8 Marquee provided essential shelter for V8 enthusiasts. The V8 AGM was chaired by David Waterton acting as temporary chairman as the V8 Chairman, Al Barnett, was unable to attend because of a prior commitment made before the Club's Silverstone dates for 2007 were confirmed. As many members know our dates are always uncertain until the F1 Circus decides when the F1 meeting will be held at Silverstone. This year the confirmation was quite late at the beginning of the year.
