V8BBQ 2007
Saturday evening - V8BBQ
After a wet day there was a surprise - the evening was bathed in sunshine for the V8BBQ, so members were able to sit out by the V8 Marquee and enjoy a social supper. Clive Wheatley's teamincluded Julie and Paul Kirkham, Jane and Paul Ridd and John Chapman who worked throughout the afternoon and provided a BBQ supper for 110 V8 members and their friends - a major catering operation with excellent cooking. John Chapman and Paul Ridd worked on a large BBQ range cooking some delicious burgers and grilling a variety of sausages, including the large German variety brought over by Walter Kallenberg and some demon spicy sausages too. Jane and Julie had prepared the salads and a plentiful supply of stawberries and fresh fruit mix during the afternoon. (Photo: Tim Hipwell)

As you can see from the photos, the evening was a contrast to the day - wonderful warm sunshine. In the distance you can see a green waste in front of the white V8 Marquee as no V8s could be parked alongside the marquee this year because the Circuit owners had banned all parking on the grassed areas simply because they were waterlogged. Those conditions are a serious problem for Silverstone because just beneath the turf is clay, so the ground does not drain and takes days to dry with the wind and sun. With rain since the Club's meeting, conditions for the F1 GP will be difficult. (6.7.07)
