Silverstone 2005

Over 150 V8s gathered alongside the V8 Marquee and enjoyed the annual International MG Meeting. The V8BBQ on Saturday night was very popular with over 80 suppers cooked by Clive Wheatley's volunteer team. Sadly the 5 year run of hot weather we have enjoyed at Silverstone for this event ended on Sunday morning with the arrival of heavy rain.

The four special Silverstone V8 Offers attracted a great deal of interest - the TE Low Brake Fluid Sensor and 12 Volt Battery Conversion kits were popular together with the RV8 Distributor Clamp Nut Wrench and V8 Thin Wall Plug Sockets brought over from the US by John Targett. The traditional V8 upper cylinder lubricant collected from Hook Norton on the Friday and the stilton cheese were welcome as always and two cases of very good wine from Provence donated by Al Barnett were a delight during the V8BBQ.

The V8AGM was held on Sunday 24th July at Silverstone attended by over 45 V8 members and elected a new V8 Committee including former V8 Chairman Howard Gosling. Unfortunately David Waterton, V8 Chairman, was not able to attend following a fall and serious injuries to both elbows. The Chris Dodds Award awarded annually to the member making a major contribution the V8 life went to Gordon Hesketh-Jones for his epic V8 goes East tour and the series of reports sent from various internet cafes and hotels throughout the 5,500 mile route. The Ian Lloyd Cup for the member bringing good cheer to the V8 Register went to Jim Gibson who has been an active member of the V8 Register since 1978 and is now V8 Treasurer. Victor Smith and Howard Gosling gave members an update on the Directors' New Club Office scheme following which a resolution supporting their critical view of the extravagant scheme and lack of the most fundamental information and their proposed action was passed by all present. The minutes of that meeting will be published shortly on this website. (27.7.05)
