Private sale - reimported RV8 in Oxford Blue SOLD 17.9.06
Oxford Blue 1597 (1995). I imported this car from Japan in March 2006 with the help of HS Imports. The car had two owners in Japan. It covered 23,400 miles in Japan and has since done 900 miles in this country. On return to the UK the car had four new Pirellis fitted. The wheels are excellent (spare is unused). New wood from Clive Wheatley was fitted and a full service was carried out with engine, gearbox and diff oil changed. A new mph speedometer was also fitted and the original kph one is with the car. A new battery was fitted and the steering rack refurbished. The leather is perfect. The vehicle was also waxoyled including the windscreen which is absolutely fine. Original overmats and rear tonneau are excellent and with the car, plus jack and wheel chocks. Body panels are straight and paintwork in Oxford Blue is lovely. Chrome air intake and handles are unmarked. I have a modern Kenwood system fitted (original is available also), even the rear amp and speakers work. Aircon works perfectly. The handbook is with the car and all the Japanese service history and bills have been translated. The car is MOT'd and taxed until March 2007. Woodcote Green 1802 (1995) with less than 6,300 miles from new. Immaculate stone beige leather upholstery and excellent Elm burr dashboard and trim, air conditioning, MG Radio Cassette, MG Over Mats, tool kit, unused spare wheel, fully documented and unusual history, Heritage Certificate, kept in a heated garage and sold in "as new" condition. Although this car was made for the Japanese market and shipped there, it was never sold or registered in Japan and came back to the UK when SMCRover at Slough were asked to get a new RV8 for a customer in November 1997. So its first ever registration was in England in 1997/98. When I bought the car from Keith Evans of West End Classics he reassured me the windscreen surround has been rust proofed internally when the car came back to the UK. Oxford Blue 0760 (1994) with 17,500 miles. I bought this outstanding car from Keith at West End Classics in August 2005. It was described as exceptional, purchased and delivered unseen. I was delighted. It was everything I'd hoped for and more. It was his wife's personal car and had just been fitted with six new Pirelli 6000s, new battery and new mohair hood. Since then it has done less than 500 miles. The leather is perfect and unmarked. The veneer is 100% as new, the carpets and factory overmats are immaculate. The wheels are as new and so is the windscreen. The bodywork is superb and finished in Oxford Blue - a rare and the best colour in my opinion. As you know West End Classics sell only the best low mileage examples and mine is no exception. Beware of scam from an overseas V8 buyer!
Rick Morton (Woodcote Green 1300) has reported a scam which members who are selling a V8 need to note. Rick says "I just thought I would update you on my experience with trying to sell my RV8 recently before I withdrew it from sale. Both Jerry Winfield (Woodcote Green 1684) and I heard from the same person but I also had several other emails with roughly the same approach.
Basically this person who is overseas agrees to buy your car, and will send you a cheque for more than the asking price to cover shipping costs etc. He then asks if you could bank the cheque and send the balance to his shipping agent via a money transfer. The cheque bounces but only after you have sent the cash to the shipping agent. This scam relies on your ignorance of how the cheque clearing system works. Problems arise because banks update their computers on day three of the clearing cycle. So if you check with them at that time, you may very well be told that the funds are available. It will only be on day four that the bank realises that there is a problem, and on day five that they tell you. Weekends and Bank Holidays all add to the delay. In my case the scam merchant was going to send me a cheque for £3,400 more than I was asking for the car. I was to subtract the cost of the car and send the remainder to his "shipping agent"." So members need to be alert to this scam and any approach from the scam merchant!
