MGBGTV8
Blaze 1890 (1974): I have had the pleasure of being
the custodian of this wonderful car since February 2000.
Where upon, I drove it from Glasgow to Edinburgh and on
to my home (then in south London) in the middle of the night
in a head-on blizzard through the mountain roads to the
borders of England. It handled like a boat and I was (honestly)
feeling sea sick, I couldn't handle the throttle yet, so
was constantly weaving from side to side, even though the
edge of the road was invisible (snow and getting thicker).
What a journey, what a car! Unfortunately, I am now in the
process of relocating to Portugal and for this reason we
must part company.
When
I received my V8 it was in extremely good condition and
I immediately commissioned a few upgrades/modifications
(partly swayed by that first trip). Including the suspension,
steering, brakes, sports exhaust, lowered chassis and changed
the wheels. I also had the injection needle changed and
air filter upgraded improving performance and economy. All
the work was carried out by Motobuild who specialise in
MG's and race preparing MG's for clients and their own race
team. As a result, I have a fine car capable of putting
a smile on my face each time I drive it! It handles really
well and behaves beautifully when cornering and I am ashamed
to say, every now and then have humbled a few respectable
modern cars - yes I have been known to suffer from the red
mist virus!
On
the down side, I am not mechanically minded which has resulted
in the gradual deterioration of its condition. Therefore,
it is screaming out for someone who can, not just enjoy
the driving experience, but who can look after it too. Although
the mechanics of it are in good order and regularly maintained,
the bodywork has become tired and needs attention in several
areas.
I
have a comprehensive list of its servicing and almost certainly
all of the receipts from the early eighties. Included is
a pictorial album of its total rebuild during the early
nineties and subsequent receipts. Since my custody began,
I have kept all the receipts for the modifications and servicing
that were carried out. Along with the day-to-day bills that,
all too often, hit the classic car owner. My V8 has not
been hidden away for sunny days and has been used often
for pleasure and occasionally for work (rarely for taking
the missus out though, she can't hear anything but the engine
and the wind!).
I would like £10,000 for my MGBGTV8, but this is the
real world, so it is up for £3,750 with room to manoeuvre.
I have not been an avid enthusiast (going to meetings and
joining in with other owners, although I wish I had) and
for this reason I have no real idea of its true value so
please go easy on us!!I am Billy Ashford and now live in
Somerset. I will be happy to discuss my MGBGTV8 to anyone
who will listen!!
