Private
sale - Factory rubber bumper MGBGTV8
Black 2888 (1976) is the 15th from last car built finished
in its original black with black interior. (Only 29 cars had
this combination). The car comes with a comprehensive history
file going back to 1980 during which time over £7,000
has been spent on restoration of the car. I have spent over
£3,000 in the last two years. In 1980 it underwent a major
restoration that included new front wings, outer sills, inner
diaphragm sills and rear quarter wings. The paintwork still
looks as good now as when it was first sprayed.
In the two years that I have owned the car, it has undergone
a major under-bonnet refurbishment, comprising new servo, re-built
clutch and brake master cylinders, completely rebuilt carb assembly,
rebuilt Smiths heater box with new matrix, all new hoses etc
etc. All ancillary under-bonnet components have been stripped
and repainted, bringing the engine bay up to virtual show condition.
Last year I discovered that the cross-member was weak around
the jacking points. At first we were going to repair the end
sections, but the cross member had started to 'blow away' from
the floor. It could have been patched up, but to do a proper
job I was advised that both the cross member and both floors
should be replaced. This is what I opted for, together with
new inner step-sills and castle rails. Needless to say, this
V8 is one of the most structurally sound cars you will ever
find. To finish the car off, I have replaced much of the interior
including new seat squab foams, diaphragms, door and side trims
and a new high-grade carpet set.
This car is not perfect; after all it is over 30 years old!
However, she looks lovely and drives like a dream
and that is all you have to do. Get in, drive and enjoy! |
