Visit
to the British Motor Heritage Body Plant at Witney
We
have gone for Option 2 - the Tour now re-scheduled for Wednesday 25th
June at 2pm.
Mike Rusell, the event coordinator, says "the good news is that
on Wednesday 25th June the BMH Body Plant factory will be producing
MGB Roadster and GT bodies, so it should prove a very interesting
visit".
Mike
also reminds members there is NO morning tour
and says "if you fancy a nice pub for lunch beforehand I can
recommend The Maytime Inn at Asthall (locatioon for GPS systems is
OX18 4HW) which is a 10 minute drive from the BMH Plant. The pub is
signposted from the B4047 just after the roundabout coming towards
Witney from Burford. The Factory is reached further along the B4047.
A mile or so along turn right into Downs Road, left into Range Road
& Book End is on the right". (6.6.08)
Please
note: We have a wholly unexpected problem with the planned
tours of the plant scheduled for Monday 9th June 2008. Due to unforeseen
circumstances the British Motor Heritage Plant at Witney will be closed
during next week and therefore there will be nothing happening at
the plant in terms of production activities at the time of our tours
have been scheduled. Mike Russell feels this presents us with three
options and
he seeks your views and preferences as soon as possible.(5.6.08)
Option 1 - continue with a tour of the "silent" plant
The management at the Plant are prepared to open the plant and conduct
a tour of the facility on Monday 9th June as arranged but it will
be a 'silent' tour with nothing happening. There would be no production
as the workforce will be on leave. If no other time is possible for
you to visit the BMH Plant then this tour can be arranged but Mike
Russell feels that walking round a non-working production plant is
not a great experience.
Option 2 - reschedule the tours for Wednesday 25th June 2008
Mike Russell feels the upside of this option is that we can reschedule
for Wednesday 25th June when the plant will be back in full production
and also they plan to be producing of MGB Roadster and GT bodies.
So a tour that day would enable visitors to see a recognisable shape
under construction. Once again we can do a morning and an afternoon
tour to suit members' needs, particularly those who have to travel
some distance to get to the plant.
Option 3 - reschedule another the tour for a later occasion
Mike Russell reports that we do have the option of arranging another
tour of the BMH Plant at some other time in the year if neither of
the above options are possible for members because of other commitments.
Mike appreciates that this is short notice but this unexpected problem
only happened yeserday and he appreciates that many of you will have
other plans or commitments, particularly on weekdays. Needless to
say your booking fee you have paid will be refunded in full if you
cannot make any of the options above.
Please let Mike Russell have your response to these options
Mike does need to have a swift response from you as the current status
is that the visit for the 9th June is cancelled unless enough people
let him know they can only make that date and would like to continue
with that tour. Please contact Mike Russell by email
or on 01628 531343.

Caution
- please note the BMH Body Plant tour is not available to members
with a heart monitor or pacemaker. The plant uses very high electrical
voltages in the welding processes that will be in operation during
our visit.
