Critical
views from the Chairman of the MGB Register to the email sent
to the Club Chairman on 15th June 2005 demanding articles and letters
submitted by Club members for publication in Safety Fast! should
not be blocked and censored.

Dear Victor,
Your email 15th June 2005
Unlike certain, in your words, "longstanding club members"
who should no better, the MGB Register Committee has taken and
will I believe continue to take the stance that a process of
review in respect of the new Kimber House Project was agreed
by a substantial majority at Council meetings and we are fully
prepared to wait for the full report as promised before deciding
on our position re the support or otherwise of the Board's proposal.
I personally think it is to be deplored that a group of unrepresentative
members should show so little faith in board members elected
by them that they consider employing blackmail and other under
hand tactics more suitable to a kindergarten, which in the medium
to long term are likely to do harm to the MGCC by resulting
in a number of members deciding to cease being members of a
club which conducts its business in such a juvenile manner.
I trust you will take it from the above that the MGB Register
committee does not wish in any way to be associated with your
actions, I have sent a copy of this letter to Kimber House and
trust that other Centres and Register Committees will do likewise.
Yours sincerely,
Bernard Rengger

What
was the email dated 15th June 2005 referred to in Bernard Rengger's
letter?
This
was an email sent to members of the Committees of a number of Centres
and Registers (many of them members of the Club's Council) who were
known to be concerned by the Directors' New Club Office Proposals
and the censorship of any articles and letters from Club members submitted
for publication in the monthly Club magazine, Safety Fast!
Attached to that email was a draft of the letter to the Club Chairman
that the longstanding Club members had prepared. The subsequent confirmations
of support from many of the recipients of that email for issuing that
letter are recorded in the copy of the letter to the Club Chairman
reproduced on this website. More confirmations of support have followed
and are continuing to arrive from Club members. The Members' Bulletin
Board on this website enables you to express your support or views
on the letter and the New Club Office proposals - just click the rollover

Dear
Bernard,
Thanks
for letting me know how you feel but I regret that I and
many other members cannot share your faith that if we just
sit back and do nothing all will be well. As someone who
has been Vice Chairman of the Club on two previous occasions
when I was invited to join other longstanding members in
sorting out serious financial messes created by two previous
Chairman and their executive committees, I think I am well
placed with my experience of managing the recovery of the
Club through those difficult periods to recognise danger
signs.
You may not be aware but I have been involved in project
development and finance for over 30 years and am able to
understand how projects should be prepared and the information
that should have been available more than 9 months ago for
an initial appraisal of all alternatives. That has simply
not been done and released to Council members. Sadly the
Board conspired to block any discussion of the valid motions
proposed by four CRBs at the last Council meeting and are
simply censoring any letters about the new club office or
related matters submitted for publication in Safety Fast!
The blackmail you speak of is simply an endeavour to stop
that censorship and allow members to discuss what happens
in their own club.
Regards,
Victor
